Our Vision and Values

Bluegrass Herbs began with a simple dream: to grow herbs, create thoughtful botanical products, and live a more self-sufficient life.

Years ago, I imagined that dream unfolding on a quiet homestead in the countryside. I wanted to grow as much of our food and herbs as possible, learn traditional skills, and build a life more connected to the natural world. Those years taught me invaluable lessons about gardening, herbalism, soil health, and the care that goes into every plant.

As life changed, so did my perspective.

Today, I no longer live on that rural homestead. Instead, I live in town, where I’ve discovered that resilience isn’t just something we build for ourselves; it becomes even more meaningful when it’s shared with others.

That realization has shaped the future of Bluegrass Herbs.

Rather than focusing solely on self-sufficiency, my goal is to help strengthen community resilience by making herbal knowledge, gardening, and practical skills more accessible. Whether it’s teaching someone about herbs, encouraging them to start their first garden, or creating products that help them connect with nature, I hope Bluegrass Herbs inspires people to become more confident and capable in their everyday lives.

Our Commitment to Quality and Sourcing

In the early years, many of the herbs in my products came directly from our own gardens. While I still grow flowers, vegetables, and a wide variety of herbs, I partner with trusted growers and suppliers who specialize in organically grown botanicals. These farms dedicate their expertise to cultivating herbs, allowing me to source exceptional-quality ingredients throughout the year with the highest quality consistency from batch to batch.

I’ve come to appreciate that no one person can do everything at the highest level. Growing herbs, manufacturing products, researching formulations, educating customers, and operating a small business are each full-time pursuits. By working alongside experienced organic growers, I can focus on creating products that are of the highest quality and care Bluegrass Herbs has always stood for.

Every herbal product is still developed by me, produced in small batches by hand in Kentucky, and made with carefully selected ingredients. My hope is that each one reflects the beauty of Kentucky’s agricultural heritage, the remarkable diversity of the plant world, and the dedication of the growers who make these botanicals possible.

Looking Ahead

My biggest dream for Bluegrass Herbs isn’t simply to grow larger, it’s to create something that benefits the community.

One day, I’d love to establish a community learning garden where people can experience no-till gardening, learn about herbs, explore healthy soil, support pollinators, and discover practical skills they can take home to their own gardens. Having worked for community gardens, environmental education facilities, and learning gardens throughout the country, I would love to bring the best of these to my home state.

I believe resilient communities are built one garden, one conversation, and one shared skill at a time.

Every purchase from Bluegrass Herbs helps support that vision, and I’m grateful you’ve chosen to be part of the journey.
